As this crazy year winds to a close we all tend to reflect back on how we handled the past 365 days. For me this year has had many highs and a few lows. I have continued my healing path mentally and physically. I have spent a lot of time writing, reading, and many hours behind my camera. Much time walking nature trails and best of all, hours on horseback my happy place.
In March, I was able to see my son who I had not seen in almost four years, it was truly a blessing to hear his laughter had returned and that he has found his way back to himself. After our visit Tim and I decided to hike some of the Trail of Tears trails in Missouri and Arkansas. On one particular hike I saw two eagles circling each other and it seemed as if they were trying to communicate with each other. I sat at the top of this peak in the Ozark’s and watched them dance back and forth until they finally landed, they made a few calls back and forth and then they quietly few together into the distance. The entire time I sat and watched this all I could think about was this had to be symbolic of my son and I, finding our way back to each other and then allowing each other to fly on their own, knowing we are back where we need to be.
In June we were finally able to get our girls trip in - we were able to spend a few days in Michigan and it was a true gift from God. I am so blessed to have these strong and beautiful women to walk beside me.
Also, in June my husband and I finally got the opportunity to feel like true grandparents, (we live 14 hours away). My son allowed us to bring one of our amazing granddaughters home with us for the summer. We had the most amazing time and we had adventures beyond anything I had ever imagined. I was able to take her on her first horseback ride, we attended fairs and festivals, we painted and went on nature walks. I will treasure that time for the rest of my days. Also, in June my world-traveling friend Sheri, landed back in the US after two years teaching abroad. I will forever be in awe of her bravery and willingness to step into the unknown.
In July thanks to the sleuthing skills of my partner in crime, Delores we were able to meet Donny Mac and his brother. We enjoyed some great conversations, laughter and fellowship. It was life changing to say the least it would also be the beginning of our next amazing adventure.
In August I began my 12th teaching year in 5th grade. I still love it although some years are much harder than others.
September came around and I was able to travel to Canada with my beautiful friend Delores. We had the adventure of a lifetime and I cannot imagine doing that trip without her by my side. We laughed, we cried, we ran red lights in Calgary and hit a few curbs along the way! We saw Lake Victoria in all of her glory and enjoyed the Canadian Rockies and the icing on the cake was meeting our THC community, Graham and everyone else in attendance. We created memories beyond my imagination.
I have been blessed this year to have time with all three of my sons, spend a lot of time with my amazing mom and take one more trip around the sun with my best friend and husband by my side.
With every passing year challenges always find their way into your life. I have enjoyed not one but two bouts with shingles and my liver continues to fight against me most of time.
I am looking forward to what 2025 will bring and hoping to continue traveling forward on this healing journey.
Blessings to you all and thank you for all of your support and encouragement, I am eternally grateful.
2024 was a good year for you. Our adventures were memorable, and I wouldn’t have wanted to travel to Canada with anyone else.
Great summary of your year. It was a pleasure meeting you in September.
